66 fairlane spring relocation
I expected one response but got several so woody posted the info for me.
These pics were taken earlier this year of my 67 Fairlane but obviously can be performed on 66-69's. Everything was moved inward 3 inches. I am running a 10.50 X 29 X 15 tire and didn't have to modify the outer fenders at all.
Yes it is close but it does not rub. There is .625 (5/8) clearance on the inside and outside both. Yes you do have to
move the inner fenders in about 2.5 inches to accommodate this big of a tire but you can gain about 1.5 inches without
cutting the inner fenders. I've tubbed several race cars and this was 10 times worse.
If you are contemplating moving the inner fenders inward be forewarned, this is a big job if you want to use the existing outer wheel well.
The perches were made of 1/4 inch steel and the rears are made of 3/16. You will want to use all of your stock
mounting locations so document this before hacking away or else do one side and then the other. If you have a
good mig welder and common sense, this is an easy job. Good Luck, Earl Hayes
